Peer Learning Communities

Sometimes the most valuable learning happens when you sit down with a small group of peers, work through the same book or topic, and talk honestly about what you are trying and what is and is not working. MRTQ PDN's Peer Learning Communities bring early childhood and school age professionals together around a set topic with a defined structure.

What is a Peer Learning Community?

Unlike our Communities of Practice — where participants set the agenda and drive the content — Peer Learning Communities at MRTQ PDN are organized around a set topic and a defined structure, guided by a facilitator from start to finish within a set period of time.These are collaborative learning experiences where reflection, conversation, and real-world practice become the work.

MRTQ Offers Two Types of PLCs

  • Regional and Topical PLCs

    MRTQ PDN's Peer Learning Communities bring early childhood and school age professionals together around a set topic with a defined structure. Participation in a PLC is free and is considered a Professional Growth Activity.  Hours attended are accepted by Maine Child Care Licensing to meet yearly training requirements.

  • Book Clubs

    MRTQ PDN facilitated Book Clubs consist of participants who agree to read a book and reflect upon the assigned chapters prior to weekly meetings. During the meetings, members participate in reflective practice and discuss how to apply what they have learned.
