Communities of Practice
Early care and education can sometimes feel like an isolating profession. We recognize that there are not always people around you who understand what you are navigating day to day. You don't have to navigate it alone. A Community of Practice puts you in the room with people who understand and have shared experiences.
What is a Community of Practice (CoP)?
A Community of Practice — or CoP — is a group of people who share a passion for what they do and come together regularly to learn from each other. Educational theorist Etienne Wenger described them as "groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly."
A CoP is not a training. There is no instructor, no curriculum, no assignments. The content comes from you, the challenges you are navigating, and the questions you may have. MRTQ PDN facilitates the conversation.
MRTQ Offers Two Types of CoPs
-
Regional and Topical CoPs
Meet monthly for approximately two hours in regions across Maine. Open to new members at any time. If you are looking for a consistent peer community and a regular space to connect with others in the field, this is a good place to start
-
Collaborative Partnerships CoPs
Focused groups that work with dedicated external partners toward a specific shared objective — for example, supporting the opening of a new child care program. These groups support a reflective process and build capacity around particular topics. Membership is limited and new members join only when they share common goals with the existing group. Both types are free.
