How Our Trainings Work
Maine Roads to Quality offers training for early care and education and out-of-school time professionals at every stage of their career — whether you are brand new to the field, building toward a credential, or deepening expertise you have had for years. There is no single path. You choose what works for your schedule, your goals, and where you are right now. MRTQ offers two ways to learn: with on-demand trainings and with facilitated trainings.
On-Demand Training
Go at your own pace. On-demand trainings are available anytime. These are accessed by logging in to your Registry account. You can complete these trainings on your own time. To sign up for on-demand trainings, you must first login to your registry account.
Facilitated Training
Learn alongside others, guided by a trainer. Facilitated trainings vary in length from 3 to 12 modules, each one week long. Each module includes 3 to 5 activities — reading, watching videos, and responding to questions in writing, video, or audio. You read and respond to other participants’ answers, which builds a real sense of community. There is a cost for facilitated training. Facilitated trainings come in two formats:
Asynchronous — no set class times, but work is completed within the week it is due. You work independently but on a shared timeline with other participants.
Hybrid — includes scheduled Zoom sessions plus work completed during the week. You attend live sessions and complete activities on your own time between them.

Core Knowledge Training
Developed by Maine Roads to Quality. Core Knowledge training covers the eight foundational areas of professional practice in early childhood and out-of-school time care. It can be applied toward moving up your career lattice, earning a Maine Credential, meeting licensing requirements, working toward a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, and meeting national accreditation requirements. When you complete a Core Knowledge training, it is automatically added to your Registry record.
Core Knowledge is a standardized set of curricula covering eight areas of expertise that form the foundation of professional practice in early childhood and out-of-school time care:
State-Approved Training
Developed by organizations outside of MRTQ PDN and approved by both Maine Roads to Quality and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. State-Approved trainings focus on ECE and out-of-school time programming and can be applied toward career lattice movement, licensing requirements, CDA requirements, and national accreditation. When you complete a State-Approved training, it is automatically added to your Registry record.
